Balance Bikes for Toddlers - What is a balance bike?
Balance bikes, also called strider bikes, are pedal-free bikes designed to help young children develop balance and simple coordination. Some have a special strap that keeps the handlebars facing forward, allowing kids to focus on scooting and balancing first. While many of us grew up with stabilisers, balance bikes are now the go-to choice for young toddlers. They’re fantastic for teaching your little one to balance independently, making the transition to a pedal bike much smoother. They’re light, safe and really, really, really fun! Shop our range of balance bikes here. Also, you can always contact us if you don’t see what you’re looking for, as we often can build more unique balance bikes if required.
Kids Bikes Ages 3-10
What’s most important when buying a kid’s bike?
The golden rule is to buy a bike that fits well. Here at The Ark Cycles, we are experienced in making sure that the bike is a perfect fit for your little one. It’s tempting to try and size up and buy a bike that’s too big or too small, which can really hinder your child’s control and enjoyment. Kids’ bike sizes are typically based on wheel diameter, but test rides are ideal for finding the true right fit. A bike that’s too large is hard for a child to handle safely, and one that’s too small can lead to discomfort or poor posture. A properly fitted bike ensures your child’s riding experience is comfortable, safe, and fun. Shop our wide range of Kid’s Bikes here.
Kids Bikes Ages 10-13+ (Can my pre-teen ride an adult bike?)
Once kids reach ten or older, they often want a more “grown-up” bike. But full-sized adult bikes are typically too big until age 12/13+. Most pre-teens need something that can take on a little more demanding riding, but they’re not quite big enough for a full-on small adult bike. We have the perfect range of high-specification, versatile, and very capable bikes for them here. They may soon be ready for a small-frame adult bike as they grow. But it really depends on the child’s height and reach. Sizing is key; test rides and proper fitting can make all the difference in comfort and control. Our best advice is to pop us a quick visit at The Ark Cycles, and we’ll help you find the perfect fit for your child in-store.
